An Art Collective
Art in Open Space

Lama Ghanem and Tatjana Schinko, a transnational group of artists, formed itself around the philosophical idea of transforming the city and the society through art. They work with so-called „Experimental Utopias“, performed in public spaces, to create social and spatial cross points, that bring together the most different people, which are normally divided e.g. through spatial order of the city, time, nationalism, social classes, age, sexes etc. Temporarily built communities enable it to exchange energy, creativity, memories, behavior, knowledge, paradigms etc. This intellectual, creative and physical infrastructure empowers the people, in the meaning of making it possible to shape their environment together with their various qualities. The assemblage has the potential to experiment locally with utopias to answer the question of „How do we want to live together?“. Through this the basement of the city of tomorrow will be created- a democratic place that is made by and belongs to everyone.
Playing, is basically a free act, which is older than the culture itself has the power to transform it. The society of the past was created through playing. Can you remember when you played together? It was the way to learn about social life.
It opens up a so called Liminal Space in which new laws can be implemented – first in the syndicate and then, because of repetition, spread over time and space, from one place to the next and from one generation to the future.
As they want to save the world with art, Ghanem and Schinko have built their own mobile center which they call Time&Space Machine which is a multi-functional wagon attached to an electric bicycle.
They use it to re-knot time and space together through travelling through the city they live in then through the whole world and creating new social cross-points. They stop by every possible place and pop up one of their self-designed games for the public; role play, skipping, dancing, jumping, singing and more.
on their way to change the world, they hand out Experimental Utopia Zines; a self-published method to share their ideas with the people.
